PRP Hair Restoration

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) contains a range of growth factors and proteins that speed tissue repair. As some types of hair loss result from damage to hair follicles, researchers have hypothesized that PRP could help regrow hair by reversing the process that occurs in androgenetic alopecia.

Many conditions can cause hair loss like: thyroid disease, autoimmune disease, anemia, protein or vitamin deficiency, hormonal changes from pregnancy or menopause, severe stress, lesions to the scalp, and chemotherapy, among others.

Does it work?

In 2019, there were a few different teams of researchers who carried out systemic reviews of research articles on PRP as a treatment for hair loss. The findings appeared in many journals. The analysis ultimately focused on 262 participants in one review and 460 participants in another review who suffered with androgenetic alopecia. According to the authors, most of the studies found that injections of PRP reduced hair loss and increase the diameter of hairs and the density of hair growth. They concluded that PRP treatments led to hair regrowth in those with androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata.

Your doctor will use PRP to stimulate the growth of hair follicles.

You may begin hair loss treatment at the time of your consultation. Then two more treatments will be scheduled at 6-week intervals.

Can PRP actually regrow hair?

PRP cannot regrow hair from nothing. There has to be dormant hair follicle to help stimulate hair, increase the diameter of hairs and the density of hair growth, which is what PRP will do. Patients usually see results in 3-6 months. It works best when there is existing thinning hair.

How is it done?

Hair restoration with PRP is an injectable treatment which uses the patient’s own blood put through a state-of-art centrifuge technology that extracts the “good cells or stem cells“. The resulting product is a vial of healthy cells taken from your own blood, now a yellow fluid or “Liquid Gold”. Basically replacing the old dead cells with new ones that will revive previously dead hair follicles and produce new hair!

Unlike other treatments which involve surgery like your hair transplants, the PRP injection for hair loss is non-invasive. With a thin needle, your own Platelet-Rich-Plasma is injected into the scalp. Then, the growth factors in your cells do their job and hair growth is naturally stimulated. Helping to restore one’s confidence, the end result is a fuller, healthier looking out of hair.
